Justice

Picture
"Let your love be active, that is, let it keep on loving and impelling your heart to work for God and the promotion of his glory." -Fr. Jean-Pierre Medaille, SJ

"We live and work to bring all people into union with God and with one another"
               "Ready for any good work"
"Loving God and the dear neighbor"
These phrases signify the importance of justice work within the charism of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. This charism is what guides SSJ Mission Corps volunteers to do the work of justice in Philadelphia. Volunteers serve in ministries with those who are materially poor (education, advocacy, social services, community organizing, parish ministry, and others). They also seek to educate and engage in areas of justice on both local and global levels. As a women focused volunteer program, volunteers are also encouraged to specifically explore issues facing women today.

When placing volunteers at a worksite for the year we try and honor their unique gifts they bring to service. While we have certain worksites we work with in the city of Philadelphia we are always open to exploring the possibility of other organizations. Volunteers will preform certain duties within their ministry site but in the spirit of the Sisters of Saint Joseph we encourage volunteers to be "ready for any good work" as their work may ask other duties of them. Being a SSJ Mission Corps volunteer is a unique experience and the time spent at the ministry site is at the heart of the mission of the program.
