Community
"The search for self, wisdom, love, truth, justice, God is strenuous and unending. We need good companions in order to persevere in it. In good company, in a community of conviction, the quest never loses its relevance, its urgency, or its savor." -Kay Ashe
Community is an important element of the SSJ Mission Corps program. Volunteers live together in intentional community in the Kensington neighborhood, one of Philadelphia's poorest neighborhoods. One night of the week is dedicated to community nights where volunteers get to know one another on a deeper level. They share in meals, prayer, reflection, and joy, always encouraging one another along the journey.
“To come home to your community and have the ritualistic question posed to me: 'how was your day?', is indispensible. That ritualistic question forces me to recall back, to the good, the bad and the ugly; the moments where God was easily present and the moments where I chose not to see God.”
–Barbara Quigley (Mission Corps Volunteer 2010-11)
